Astral Projection Safety

Practising with confidence and calm

Astral projection is generally considered safe, but common fears and practical precautions are worth understanding. Approaching the practice calmly and with grounding makes for a more positive experience.

Is It Dangerous?

Most experienced practitioners and traditions hold that astral projection is fundamentally safe, and that you cannot become lost or unable to return to your body. The connection to the physical body is considered secure, drawing you back naturally the moment you think of it. The main challenges are psychological — fear, anxiety, or unsettling sensations — rather than any real physical danger. Understanding this in advance removes much of the worry that can block the experience.

Managing Fear

Fear is the most common obstacle, and it can both prevent projection and make the experience unpleasant. The intense vibrations and sense of separation can be startling, so staying calm is the key skill. Practitioners recommend approaching the practice with a relaxed, curious mindset and reminding yourself that you are safe and in control. Simply thinking of your physical body will return you to it at any time, which is reassuring to remember.

Grounding and Good Practice

Sensible precautions make the practice smoother and more comfortable. It helps to project in a calm, private space where you won't be disturbed, and to set a clear, positive intention beforehand. Grounding afterward — moving the body, having a drink or snack, and re-orienting to the physical world — helps you feel settled. Those with certain mental-health conditions may wish to be cautious, and anyone can simply stop if the experience feels overwhelming.
