Prithvi mudra — the earth mudra — joins the tip of the ring finger with the tip of the thumb, the other fingers extended. In the yogic map of the hand, the ring finger carries the earth element: the tissues, strength and stability of the body, and the rooted steadiness of the mind. Joining it to the thumb (fire, universal energy) is said to increase the earth element, feeding solidity into a depleted or scattered system. It is the mudra reached for when life feels ungrounded.
Prithvi mudra suits the early morning and any moment of ungroundedness; traditional practice holds it 15–30 minutes daily, in one session or several. It is especially supportive during convalescence, travel and seasons of upheaval — whenever the ground itself needs reinforcing.
Each mudra tunes a current in the body's energy map. Explore the seven chakras that map guides.
