The Sri Yantra is a revered mystical diagram from the Hindu tradition, formed of nine interlocking triangles radiating from a central point. It is considered one of the most powerful symbols for meditation and manifestation.
The Sri Yantra is composed of nine interlocking triangles that surround and radiate from a central point, or bindu, producing forty-three smaller triangles in all. Four triangles point upward, representing the masculine principle, and five point downward, representing the feminine, their union forming the whole. This core is enclosed by rings of lotus petals and a square gateway with four openings. Its precise construction is famously exacting, demanding great skill to draw correctly.
The Sri Yantra symbolises the cosmos and the union of the divine masculine and feminine from which all creation arises. Its central bindu represents the origin point of the universe, the source from which everything emanates and to which it returns. The interlocking triangles express the interplay of opposing forces held in perfect balance. As a whole it is a map of creation radiating outward from unity into multiplicity.
The Sri Yantra is used widely in meditation, where practitioners focus on its centre to still the mind and draw inward. It is valued as a tool for manifestation and prosperity, kept in homes and on altars to invite abundance. It appears in jewellery, art and tattoos as a potent spiritual emblem. In yoga and tantric traditions it remains a central object of devotion and focus.
Spiritually the Sri Yantra is a gateway for the meditator to move from the outer world toward the divine source at the centre. Gazing at its geometry and drawing the attention inward to the bindu is a practice of unifying the mind and touching the origin of consciousness. It is believed to attune the practitioner to cosmic harmony and to invite spiritual and material abundance. As a map of creation and return, it is honoured as supremely sacred.
