Om — also written Aum — first sounds in the Upanishads of ancient India, where it is named the seed of all creation: the vibration from which the universe unfolds. Sound healers use its vibration therapeutically, and for millions of practitioners East and West it remains a daily doorway into stillness.

Tradition holds that meditating on its four parts carries consciousness from the outer world through dream and dreamless depth into the silent witness at the core.
