Hexagram 11: Peace — I Ching Meaning

ChineseT'ai TrigramsEarth over Heaven Symbol

The Judgment

Peace: the small departs, the great approaches. Good fortune and success. Heaven has placed itself beneath the earth — the creative and receptive powers face one another and mingle, and all things flourish in their exchange. This is the hexagram of spring, of harmony between high and low, inner strength and outer gentleness.

The Image

Heaven and earth unite: thus the ruler divides and completes the courses of heaven and earth, furthering and regulating the gifts of the seasons, and so aids the people. In times of flowering, the wise organise the abundance so it reaches everyone.

What This Hexagram Means for You

A genuinely favourable season is opening for you — relationships harmonise, obstacles dissolve, and what you offer meets what the world wants. The counsel is to use peace actively: build, plant, reconcile and distribute while the weather holds, because such seasons are for constructing what harder seasons will later test. Keep the inner strong and the outer gentle, in that order. Enjoy this openly; gratitude extends good weather.
